I'd say there are probably a couple of possibilities. One is that strength training will add muscle mass which is heavier than fat. Its more important to note differences in body shape/the way clothes fit/add muscle to "re-create" the shape of arms, legs, glutes, etc.. Also check body fat percentages with a specific type of scales that can measure such. Its also quite possible that one may eat too many carbohydrates or have blood sugar problems (not necessarily diabetes)or have overworked adrenal glands, which can effect how your body stores fat. I'd recommend checking out "The Zone" books by Dr. Barry Sears.
Hope that helps some!

As I thought about my response, I remembered laughing with my friend one time at the comment, "muscle weighs more than fat"! Actually that should be, "muscle is denser than fat". LOL You know what I meant. :-)

I'm not a trainer or dietitian, but I've always been told by people who are, to vary the workout routine. Sometimes the body will reach a "plateau" when it becomes accustomed to the same kinds of activities, so it's a good idea to shock your system by trying something new. If nothing else, you'll never be bored with your workouts. :D

Wow - I am impressed with your commitment to exercise and train. Where do you find the time?? Whenever I do spend some time working out on a regular basis, I have also found that I begin to feel famished - and need to eat more. And I find that I need to eat more carbs in order to feel full and have the energy workout. Strictly salads and fruits and veggies just don't do it for me when I am in workout mode.

Weight gain or inability to lose weight can be due to a number of factors. An evaluation for weight gain should always include measurement of thyroid function testing, assessment for insulin resistance which is most easily done with a 2 hour glucose tolerance test with insulin levels. Additionally, chromium and vanadium are trace minerals that help sensitize your body to insulin so that you need less of it. High insulin levels tend to lead to weight gain so the less your body has to raise the levels, the less likely you are to gain weight. Lastly, low testosterne, even in women is common after age 45 to 50. Replacing your testosterone (if it is low) coupled with proper diet and exercise may help you to lose weight. To Your Health!
