Dr. Hunstad is past President of the North Carolina Society of Plastic Surgeons, past President-Elect of the Lipoplasty Society of North America, and is on the Board of Directors of the Body Contour Research Foundation. He is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the International Consortium of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, the International Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the North Carolina Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, the North Carolina Medical Society, the American Medical Association, and the Mecklenburg County Medical Society.
Dr. Hunstad graduated from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, served his Internship and General Surgery residency at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids Michigan and immediately following, completed his residency in Plastic Surgery at the Grand Rapids Area Medical Education Center. He completed a coveted fellowship in reconstructive microsurgery at the MECOM Microsurgery Institute, Baylor Department of Plastic Surgery, in Houston Texas.
Joseph P. Hunstad M.D., F.A.C.S., is the President of the Hunstad Center for Cosmetic Plastic Surgery PA. He has served as an Assistant Consulting Professor at Duke Medical Center, Department of Surgery, and Section of Plastic Surgery. He is Section Head of Plastic Surgery at Carolinas Medical Center, University Hospital, in Charlotte, North Carolina. He is former Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and former Clinical Assistant Professor at Baylor Department of Plastic Surgery in Houston, Texas.
Dr. Hunstad has published more than forty Plastic Surgery articles in the world literature concerning body contouring and facelifting. He has published numerous chapters in plastic surgery textbooks, most recently, A Systematic Approach to MACS-Lift Operative Techniques in the textbook Short-Scar Face Lift- Operative Strategies and Techniques. Soon to be released is Dr. Hunstad's first full work entitled The Atlas of Abdominoplasty , which is concentrated on body contouring and related ancillary procedures. It is scheduled for release in December of 2008 and will be simultaneously published in English, Spanish and Portugese.
Dr. Hunstad has been honored to be featured as a guest speaker for many State and regional medical Societies including the Southeastern Society of Plastic Surgeons, the North Carolina Society of Plastic Surgeons, the South Carolina's Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Florida State Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Capitol Area Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Houston Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the Michigan Academy of Plastic Surgeons.
By invitation, he has lectured and performed live surgery in many countries of the world including the American Virgin Islands, Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Columbia, Cuba, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Russia, Spain, Saudi Arabia, and Sweden. He has been an invited faculty member, teaching plastic surgeons current procedures and techniques throughout the United States and internationally.
